DESCRIPTION:The Autumn half term is a busy time for anyone who works with children and young people in our Yorkshire churches. We have had our BIG Day Out\, followed by our Youth Residential and then we met for Youth Forum. Now the half term is over and there are only a few weeks before Advent and Christmas events and activities begin… \nOn Thursday 01 December there will be an opportunity to take a short amount of time out of the hustle and bustle. Join with other children and youth ministers from across the Yorkshire synod to pray together\, to talk to one another\, to walk alongside each other\, and to share lunch together. SUMMARY:Mental Health and Christianity Conference
DESCRIPTION:URC Yorkshire Synod is delighted to be supporting a new venture in Yorkshire on wellbeing and faith through the MENTAL HEALTH AND CHRISTIANITY CONFERENCE. \nThe conference brings together organisations and church bodies to maintain and nurture the obvious link between Mental Health and Christianity. And how our faith impacts our mental health\, and vice versa. \nA first of its kind. We’re so excited to see this event come to life in May 2022! It will be a day full of reflection\, inspiration and networking. This event is bringing together three Christian denominations as well as other consulting agencies. There’ll be workshops\, with a keynote speech by Dr Tasia Scrutton. For just £12 you will receive lunch and refreshments\, a full day of input and reflection\, and maybe even some goodies at the end!  \nThe event will take place at Wesley Hall\, Crookes\, Sheffield\, S10 1UD. But as part of our commitment on inclusivity and reaching as many as we can\, as well as our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint\, we will be livestreaming parts of the day too! Tickets are available for £12 if attending in-person (including lunch and refreshments)\, livestreaming tickets are free but we welcome donations for helping to continue facilitating this element. DESCRIPTION:“We’d love to share the good news with children and young people – but there aren’t any in my church” \nJust as Jesus’ ministry happened where people were\, we sometimes have to leave the comfort of our own environment to meet and reach people with whom we don’t normally have contact. \nFor children and young people\, that can often mean schools and colleges. In this session you will have the opportunity to hear from two youth and community work practitioners with experience of youth work in education settings: \nRuth Watson is a URC Minister. She currently exercises a Special Category Ministry MediaCityUK Church and Community Hub in Salford Quays.  This is a partnership between Oasis and the URC.  Her role is to build a church community in the Hub serving both the Academy and the local communities of Ordsall/Langworthy estates and MediaCity.  Ruth is involved with the Academy through chaplaincy and mentoring and occasional RE lessons; and with the community through PlaySpace; Talk English Café and sometimes with Youth Club and building up Holy Hub a Thursday evening Church Group. \nNigel Robertsis the Further Education Chaplaincy Ambassador in the West Midlands area as part of the work of the West Midlands Churches Further Education Council. Nigel has a wealth knowledge and experience in FE Chaplaincy and a passion to help church communities engage with and support those within the FE community in the West Midlands and beyond. In 2022 Nigel has launched FE Sunday – being held for the first time ever on Sunday 15 May 2022 – as an opportunity to pray for your local colleges and for the Further Education sector\, and to consider how your church could love and serve your local college. I can never remember)! \nThere are a large number of cliches\, like the ones above\, about children and young people and the Church. Some we can read and they simply make us smirk or roll our eyes\, but others can ignite a more emotive response; a more passionate response. \nWe want to welcome children and young people into all aspects of the life and business and the Yorkshire Synod of the URC. This has provided space for sharing and learning together.\n\nThese gatherings are open to ALL Messy Churches so if you would like to join (for your first or fifth time) please do come along and invite others too.\n\nThe next ‘Northerly Synods Messy Church gathering’ is on 28th February and will focus on Easter.\n\n\n\nWe will be opening the session with the opportunity for you to share\, if you wish\, something that went really well (or really bad!) for you at your Advent / Christmas Messy Church. DESCRIPTION:Youth Assembly is back for 2022 and celebrating 50 years of the URC. Come and join young people (aged 15-26) from across the URC to ‘commemorate the past\, celebrate the present and create the future‘ together. \nA group will be going from Yorkshire Synod and the synod will pay for you to go if you book before the 11th Nov deadline (after that deadline the synod will pay £115 but you will need to pay the extra £30). We also hope to be able to offer free transport to and from the event. SUMMARY:Yorkshire Synod Youth Weekend
DESCRIPTION:also After all the restrictions of the past year we are really pleased to be able to bring you the synod Youth Weekend again 1st – 3rd Oct at Kingswood Activity Centre\, Dearne Valley. Last year was particularly hard on young people\, so we are glad to be able to offer a residential weekend to socialise\, have fun and join in all sorts of activities with friends. \nThere will also be time for young people to try praying and to look at the Bible together in a way that will be completely accessible if you don’t have any faith or church experience. \nThe cost of the weekend is only £25 per person. Leaders from URC groups will be welcome to come with any young people from their churches too. SUMMARY:Little Big Day Out
DESCRIPTION:‘Little Big Day Out’ is a chance for families and children from your church to have fun and spend time together after so many months of isolation and limits on our lives. We cannot offer a large organised programme due to ongoing Covid restrictions but we can provide some space for fun and  ‘time out’. We hope you and your families will find it valuable to just be together. \nTickets for this event are already at a reduced price but further subsidy is available\, so please get in touch to discuss your church or families’ circumstance. Tickets are needed for everyone over 90cm tall (however old you are). \nYou can click on the poster below to download a copy. Download a booking form here. Bookings can be made by families or or you can arrange a group to go together. Unaccompanied adults are not allowed into the park but any adults who are taking or helping with children are welcome.
