Some of you will already be aware that Mr Alastair Forsyth, was recently appointed to take over the position of Trust Secretary, when Matthew Prevett sadly leaves us at the end of January. Alastair will be working alongside Matthew over the next few weeks, before flying solo in February!
Alastair will already be known to many in the Synod, but here in his own words he tells us a bit about himself:
I’m a Scot, originally from Edinburgh, but have lived and worked in England for the past 35 years. My professional career was in healthcare Human Resource Management.
I’ve lived in Knaresborough in North Yorkshire for the past 23 years with my wife Joyce and our two children who have now at last left home! Brought up in the Church of Scotland I have worshiped in Baptist, Anglican and URC churches as I’ve moved round the country with work. I’m an Elder and Church Secretary of Knaresborough URC and also play guitar, both Electric and Acoustic, with our churches Worship Band.
In respect of the wider URC I’m a Director of the URC Trust and a member of the Human Resources Advisory Group. Within the Yorkshire Synod I am the Coordinator of our Mediation Service and a member of the recently established Northerly Synod’s Listening & Reconciliation Service. In September 2019 was privileged to be a member of the group from the URC which visited Israel & Palestine to meet and learn about the difficulties faced by Palestinian Christians.
Outside of my work in the church I am a Community Mediator trying to help neighbours resolve their disputes which can be about the smallest things, and, a Restorative Justice Facilitator trying to bring the victims of crime together with their offender in order to help them both achieve some sense of closure in relation to the offence which affected both their lives.
