Revd Simon Cross, Minister for the Hull Area churches, was one of our serving ministers to gather with others at Wydale Hall for their annual autumn 24hour retreat. This is his reflection of their time together:
“The autumn ministers’ gathering at Wydale Hall, this year, focussed on the idea of vocation. What is vocation, what does it mean to be ‘called’? How can we perceive, understand, and encourage it in others? Across the 24 hours we spent together we were invited to explore these questions together – a process that, of course, enabled much discussion and plentiful opportunities to ‘get to know’ one another. One of the great strengths of a gathering of this sort is that it provides space for those of us who can attend to set down our too long to-do lists, pause, reflect, and remember what it is we’re about. In that sense the call to consider ‘vocation’ – a concept at the heart of each of our ‘routes into ministry’ was very helpful. Twenty-four hours always flies past, but it remains a precious privilege to pause.”
