Margaret Whincup, Church Secretary at Christ Church, Halton, told us how they wanted to benefit their community:
“We had a successful Harvest celebration at Christ Church Halton on Sunday 1st October with fruit, veg and flowers being given to our congregation, to Meeting Point Café on Harehills Lane and to the local Food Bank.
A monitory collection was taken to support the paying forward scheme at Meeting Point Café whereby any money received is divided up into meals, cups of coffee or tea and cakes etc. and then post-it notes are stuck on the notice board in the café so that anyone can have a meal or drink without feeling they are being singled out because of their inability to pay. All the customers in the cafe know that they are in a safe place and can also discuss any problems or issues with the Deacon or volunteers who are there.
The following week, on 8th October, we celebrated our Church Anniversary 34 years and counting. We had a wonderful service from our new Methodist Minister Revd Edward Sakwe who we share with Roscoe Methodist and Trinity United Meth/URC.”
