From ‘Hosanna’ to ‘Alleluia’, we join the voice of our heart to the universal song of the Christian church as we make the journey together through Holy Week to Easter.
It is humbling to think of the countless ways in which we, the churches of the United Reformed Church Yorkshire Synod, will be making our separate journeys. In so many ways – quiet, noisy, private, public, simple or creative, we share the story of Jesus, crucified and risen.
But I hope and pray that we will know and have a real sense of being part of a very much bigger story. We share this journey together as the family of churches across Yorkshire. In many places, especially in our Local Ecumenical Partnerships, this will also be a delightfully and richly ecumenical journey.
But this is just the beginning. In fact, we are taking part, and bearing witness to, in a ‘God-sized event’ (a wonderful phrase I borrow from David Ford’s commentary on John’s Gospel) with universal implications. There is nothing in all creation untouched by the story to which we bear witness.
May we be a blessing one to another, in our neighbourhoods, and indeed as global citizens, as we give voice to the faith that is in us – God’s great purpose of salvation is made known to us in Jesus, crucified and risen!
Every Blessing,
Rev Jamie Kissack, Yorkshire Synod Moderator
