At the end of September, a group of people from across Yorkshire Synod who minister to children and young people in our churches, enjoyed a retreat at The Art House in Wakefield, led by Jon Steel.
Megan Tillbrook and Tony Harris, collaborated the retreat and here is Megan’s reflection of the day:

“A group of those who minister with children and young people in gathered for a time of prayer and friendship, a brief pause in a busy week, a time to meet God and to rest in His presence.

The invitation was to ‘come as you are’, and each person was invited to reflect and share on the question ‘how are you?’ as we opened our retreat time together. For some this question brought forth struggles and hardships, sadness and burdens, and for all a recognition of the physical and mental tiredness that we all carry. In prayer, we offered ourselves to God.

It is easy to not prioritise time together in fellowship and time with God when life and work is busy, but it seemed that this day was pertinent for all. The opportunity to connect with likeminded people who share an understanding of the joys and challenges of ministry with children and young people, to offer and receive support from peers and friends and to enjoy laughter and conversation together.

There was definite sense of not feeling alone, of mutual sharing and support, of respect, love and care for one another.  Through reflective and encouraging scripture study, short meditation, music and art, all were invited to be open and honest in God’s presence. The day was a low-key celebration that everything we do is for our amazing Lord.

The outcome was a fabulous day with awesome company, who are true warriors for Christ. Thank you to Jon Steel for leading a great day.”
