Our holiday club was 3 mornings and was called ‘High Five Heroes’, with a superhero theme. The truth we explored at High Five Heroes is that Jesus is a hero because he welcomes everyone, no matter who they were. We can be heroes too by doing the same – if we trust in God, he will help us. How should Jesus’ actions shape how we respond towards others?

The club was hosted by ‘The Hand’ and ‘Dave’ the superheroes. They led us into our story each day, which were:

  • Jesus heals a man with leprosy
  • Jesus feeds 5000 people
  • Jesus welcomes the children and the widow’s offering

The memory verse we used for the whole week was based on Joshua 1:9: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Each day we played games, sang songs including our theme song, listened to the story for the day and watched the superhero drama. Then we split into our groups for a rotation of activities – craft, reflection time, and refreshments and activities in our team bases. After the rotation of activities we all gathered back together for our superhero assault course and some more singing before the children went home.

We all loved being involved with our holiday club this year. It was a brilliant team of adult volunteers from across all four of our supporting churches.  It’s a very special thing to work together. And each day we were helped by some wonderful young leaders (aged 12-15) who came from our youth groups and got stuck in with supporting the kids and grownups!
