The Synod’s Green Apostle Group, got in touch to let us know how Knottingley URC reached out to a project within their local community who endeavour to make a part of it beautiful for everyone who visits. Here is what they said:
“As part of our ongoing Green Agenda, Knottingley URC recently reached out to the Friends of Freda’s Garden—a group dedicated to caring for a beautiful stretch of the canal path lovingly planted by the late Freda, a local woman whose vision transformed an ordinary space into a sanctuary of colour, peace, and welcome.
Today, the Friends continue her legacy, tending the garden so that it remains a place of beauty for everyone who passes by.
As a church, we asked if there was anything they needed. We were delighted to donate two climbing roses, aptly named “Pilgrim” and “Bathsheba.” A small group of us visited the canal, met with Mark, who now manages the garden, and shared a simple blessing by the water as the roses were planted—symbols of growth, hope, and ongoing care for God’s creation.”
Well done to all involved.
