In our discussion about the future of the Yorkshire Synod and having asked ‘Who are we?’, the next question we asked ourselves in the Synod Council was, ‘What are we here for?’ There are many different possible answers of course! I hope we are clear that we are NOT here just to keep things going, and to maintain a building. For me, the possible positive answers come under three headings:
- to worship God;
- to develop our discipleship together;
- to engage in mission to the world.
When we get it right these three work together and feed each other.
Do ‘worship’, ‘discipleship’ and ‘mission’ capture all the answers you would give to the question ‘What are we here for?’
What does your church focus on most?
Would you like to see a change, and if so in what direction?
I would like to see an increase in our confidence to share the faith we hold. I would like us to understand that sharing our own experience is powerful. Why do we do what we do?
And that we don’t have to ‘know everything
But it isn’t easy in today’s world – maybe we need to acknowledge that?
