“On Sunday 2nd October, the congregation watched as some of our young people planted a tree in the church grounds”, reported Church Secretary, Janet Virr, of Heckmondwike URC.
She went on to say, “This was a special event tinged with poignancy as it was for the Platinum Jubilee of our late, much loved sovereign Queen Elizabeth II. Little did we know when we planned this event some months ago that the planting would take place barely three and a half weeks after her death and two weeks after her funeral.”
The date was chosen to coincide with the URC’s 50 year Jubilee and Heckmondwike UR Church Anniversary which was newly formed in January 2022 after an amalgamation with Grove URC Gomersal.
